CAPPD Members meet for 2015 AGM

The Canadian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (CAPPD) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM). The AGM was well attended by CAPPD members representing all major federal political parties and both the House of Commons and the Senate and included discussion of amendments to CAPPD’s constitution, elections to the 2015-2016 Executive Committee and a special presentation from Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development, Lois Brown.

Mrs. Brown briefed members on ongoing discussions regarding the Post-2015 development agenda with a special focus on maternal, newborn and child health. During the briefing, Mrs. Brown discussed the Government of Canada’s overarching priorities related to the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), targets and indicators and where issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights fit in.

Following the briefing, members voted on an amendment to adjust the composition of the Executive Committee. Effective immediately, the Executive Committee will be comprised of one (1) Chair, four (4) Vice-Chairs and four (4) Directors. Within this new structure, special attention will be paid to ensuring balanced representation from all political parties, as well as both Chambers of Parliament.
