CAPPD members leave for Berlin to attend annual G7/G20 parliamentarians conference


From April 16-17, CAPPD members Alexandrine Latendresse and Isabelle Morin will attend the annual G7/G20 parliamentarians conference taking place in Berlin, Germany. The conference is hosted by the German All Party Parliamentarians’ Group on Population and Development, in collaboration with European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development and DSW (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung).

The conference takes place in the lead up to the G7 Summit taking place in June. The theme of the parliamentarian’s conference is women’s economic empowerment, which was also selected as one of the main topics for the G7 Summit by Chancellor Merkel. The conference will examine sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls are key prerequisites for empowerment. The meeting is organised in partnership with the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, the Inter-American Parliamentary Group on Population and Development, and the World Future Council.

The Canadian parliamentary delegation has been invited to present examples of Canadian leadership on G7 & G20 commitments in women’s empowerment and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
