Ottawa – From 26-27 April, members of the Canadian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, Dr Hedy Fry (MP Vancouver Center) and Pam Damoff (MP Oakville North-Burlington) were among 130 Parliamentarians from over 65 countries at the Global Conference of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, in preparation for the 2016 G7 Ise-Shima Summit.

Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights conducted an analysis of the ways in which sexual and reproductive health-related issues were addressed in Budget 2016. The analysis examines spending in the areas of: health care, Indigenous peoples, child care, Status of Women Canada and official development assistance.

Resolution A/HRC/29/L.16/Rev.1Accelerating Efforts to Eliminate all Forms of Violence Against Women

The resolution on is an annual resolution led by Canada at the UN Human Rights Council. This year, for the first time, it focused on eliminating domestic violence.

This is the first ever UN resolution to use the terms intimate partner violence and comprehensive sexuality education.

In April 2015, two CAPPD members participated in the G7/G20 parliamentarians’ conference in Berlin, Germany in the lead up to the G7 Summit. The theme of the conference was women’s economic empowerment. Following the conference, CAPPD members and other parliamentarians from G7 countries communicated the outcome from the conference, the ‘Berlin Parliamentary Appeal’ to Chancellor Merkel.
 

From April 16 to 17 2015, CAPPD members Isabell Morin (MP – Notre-Dame-de-Grâce-Lachine) and Alexandrine Latendresse (MP – Louis-Saint-Laurent) attended the annual G7/G20 parliamentarians conference which took place in Berlin, Germany. The conference concluded with the adoption of the Parliamentarians’ Appeal to G7 Heads of State.

The following letter was sent to Chancellor Merkel on behalf of 90 members of 50 parliaments, including Canada. The letter urges G7 heads of State to consider the appeal in the G7 Women’s Dialogue.
