Starting today, Canada is host to a high level summit on maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH). The March edition of the Canadian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (CAPPD)’s factsheet focuses on sexual and reproductive health and rights within the context of international development frameworks, including the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development’s Programme of Action (ICPD PoA), the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (PfA) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The factsheet provides background information on all three frameworks, and explores how they contribute to realizing individuals’ sexual and reproductive rights.

Throughout 2014, CAPPD will share 12 factsheets on various topics related to sexual and reproductive health and rights. Each factsheet will be different in terms of depth of content. Some factsheets will be linked to some key international events, including the upcoming International Parliamentarians Conference on the Implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action (IPCI).

This inaugural factsheet provides an introduction to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), key SRHR-related facts and figures and where to find more information on the subject.

Accountability for Maternal, Newborn & Child Survival: 2013 Update

With fewer than 1,000 days remaining until the 2015 deadline for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Accountability for Maternal, Newborn and Child Survival: 2013 update report provides urgently-needed evidence about country progress –and challenges preventing progress – in scaling up the health interventions that work to save women’s and children’s lives.
